Painting Aroma Stones for My Own Wedding

The Artist's Wedding

When I began planning my wedding, I knew I wanted the details to feel personal, thoughtful, and handmade — something guests could hold, keep, and remember the day by. I wanted our wedding favours to carry intention, not just decoration.

I had always envisioned a garden party. The idea of aroma stones came naturally. They are subtle, beautiful objects that gently diffuse essential oils over time. They are functional, long-lasting, and understated in a way that felt right for the males attending our wedding. I wanted even the males to receive something that was still aesthetic and refined, yet practical enough to be used in their daily spaces. For the ladies, I created handmade pearl and gemstone jewellery (my other handmade brand Little Zen, Studio).

The aroma stones themselves were individually hand-painted by me. As I painted, I held each guest in mind. I thought about their personality, their warmth, their quietness or vibrancy, and tried to match colours and florals that would reflect my impression of them. Some designs were bold and vivid, for guests who carry energy into a room. Others were softer, more muted, layered with gentle hues for those whose presence feels calm and grounding.

Creating these aroma stones reminded me why I make art. Craft, to me, is not about perfection. It is about attention. It is about noticing small details, holding someone in mind, and translating feeling into colour and form. For me, this project was more than wedding preparation. It was an intimate act of care. It allowed me to express gratitude to the people who have walked with us in different seasons of life. Instead of choosing something mass-produced, I chose to give my time and thoughts.
